Chiaroscuro: the use of light and dark to create the illusion of three-dimensional volume on a flat surface.
To create an artistic lightning:
  • increase dramatic tension
  • create sensational effect
  • pull your attention to a subject in an intense way
  • create a tasteful composition(negative vs positive space)
Week 6(1/10): Ms Anis introduced us today's topic which is composition #3 Rhythm and movement. Then, Ms Anis and Ms Jennifer started to check on our progress on task 2.

A good composition should have- Value tones, Shapes, Positive vs Negative  spaces(Chiaroscuro), Perspectives/ spatial depth
Good Rhythm= Good movement

I decided to draw the movie called 'The Greatest Showman' because it is one of my favourite movie. I am choosing the scene when the girl (Zendaya) and the boy (Zac Efron) has forced to break up because of their different social class. I think this scene is so touching and I like the song (rewrite the stars)so much.

2. Sketches
I sketch it using ipad and I think the original scene is a bit too simple so I change it to the girl sitting on the ring and the guy is pulling it down.

3.Digitalize
Then , based on my sketches, I traced it in Adobe Illustrator.

4.Animated GIF
After done doing the poster, I can start proceed to make the animating part, first, we have to copy layer by layer from Adobe Illustrator to Adobe Photoshop and then name it properly so that we can recognize it.
Figure 4: work progress on animating the gif,15/10/21

The concept I tried to make is the girl who sitting on the ring will moving down slowly and the man will be pulling the ropes. Then, I also tried to make the stage light getting brighter and brighter slowly in this gif. And the title and will also appear slowly.

To make the effects, I tried to make what Ms Jennifer taught in the class, I added some keyframes on the layer 'light' and slightly change the opacity from 0 to 100 so that the light appear from dark to bright.

Figure 4.3 : work progress on animating the gif, 15/10/21
Then, I want to make the girl moving down slowly and what I did to make this effects is I duplicate the layers and change the position slowly so that at the end it will be like the girl moving down. I would say that this progress is the hardest part because I need to make sure that the position wasn't changing too much or else it will be weird.

Then, I found another way that let the girl moving down which is set timeframe on the position and this is way more convenient and easier.

FEEDBACK

Week 6: Ms Anis said that my heading is too big. Overall is good but just need to figure out how do make it animate. Ms Anis also reminds me to put the log line of the movie.

REFLECTIONS

I think that this task is my favorite project so far. We are able to design a poster on the movie that we like. I also learnt that minimalist poster should simplified all the component but It should also brings out the most important element that people will understand what movie it is after seeing the poster. Although my animated gif seems to be simple but it also took me some times to complete it. But I was quite satisfied with the result and I believed that sometimes less is more.
