LECTURES

Realism vs Surrealism

Realism:

• Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world (reality)
• Always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter&theme
• No need to think outside the box because it is not 'real'

Surrealism:

• Explores the subconscious mind 
• Concentrating on dream-images 
• Aims to distort the ordinary and 'reality'
• Defies logic
• A cultural movement focused on arts to express about the artist's idea themselves 

To create surrealism artworks, we should have:

• Dream-like scenes and symbolic images
• Unexpected, illogical juxtaposition 
• Bizarre assemblages of ordinary objects
• Primitive/child-like design

Project 2B - Poster Design 

Timeframe: WEEK 6 - WEEK 9
Design for social good: Design for the Community project
Theme: MENTAL HEALTH - Stay positive during this pandemic
After some consultations with Mr Fauzi , here's the some information that I should put in the poster.

Title: Focus On The Good

Slogan: There are still lots of hope in the future and let’s not give up until we fight against this pandemic.

Call For Actions: Don't hesitate to call for help

2. Sketches

The covid-19 pandemic has brought us a serious affect whether is in our mental health or our body health. All of us are facing many challenges in their daily life. For example, loss of family , job loss , and lacking money. We can easily become stressful , overwhelming and others strong emotions especially when things doesn’t  goes like what you expect.

What I tried to make is I tried to put some hands holding a various type of knifes pointing the girl who is facing the problems during this pandemic. Then, I tried to draw a hand that is came from the bright side that indicated there will be someone who will help us.

3. Digitalize

After sketching it out using ipad, I tried to put it into Adobe Photoshop and traced all the element out. I want to focus on the hand that try to help so I tried to make the whole poster in darker color and the brightest is on the hand. I also added a gradient background behind the hand so it is now emphasis in the whole poster.

After this, we are required to use some real things instead on drawing. For mine, I will have to find picture that a girl sitting with the same position I drew.

Then, I also need to find some real hands and also do some adjustment by using the technique that I have learnt in the past few weeks.

Feedback: Mr Fauzi said overall is good but I can use the font that I used in the sketch using Procreate which is a font called 'Rockwell'. Then, He said that the poster right now has no focal point so he ask me to enlarge the size of the girl.

Description:

The covid-19 pandemic has brought us a serious affect whether it is in our mental health or our body health. The girl who is sitting there is actually representing people who are frustrated because of this pandemic. Four of the hands are some problems that people mostly met during this pandemic which is job, financial, covid-19, and health. They were all pointing it by using some sharp things like knives and scissors. This represents that these problems are torturing us everyday. Then, the hand with color is people who are trying to help us. So, try to accept and receive people who try to help us and we can also help friends and family that need us. The title is 'Focus on the good', which means that we should just ignore the things that are troubling us and focus on what we love and care about. Let's not give up until we fight against this pandemic!
