LECTURES
WEEK 1:
Ms Siti has started to brief us about the module and also our assignment.
After this, she also said that this module will be in group work as we
have chosen this during the class. There are some topics that we can
choose to research, including locker, space, website or app.
Things to do:
1. Form a group
2. Choose our topic
3. Start case study
WEEK 2:
Characteristics of UX Design:
1. Usability
2. Equitable
3. Enjoyable
4. Useful
1. Usability
- must be discoverable and understandable
- the design, structure, and motive of the product are clear to the
user.
Question to evaluate the usability:
Is the design easy to understand?
Can the user find everything easily?
Can users accomplish the desired task without any hindrances?
2. Equitable
-when users with diverse backgrounds and abilities are able to use and enjoy
it
- regardless of their age, gender identity, race or ability.
Question to evaluate the equitable:
Are the needs of diverse groups considered?
Is the design fulfilling the needs of historically underrepresented
groups?
3. Enjoyable
- Make the user happy while using it
- creates a positive relationship with the user.
Question to evaluate the enjoyable:
Does the design consider the user’s feelings?
Is the design inspiring or delighting users?
Is the design keeping the user engaged?
4. Useful
- solves a user problem
Question to evaluate the usefulness:
Is the design solving a user problem?
Does it help the user achieve a specific goal?
Is the design adding value to the user’s experience?
Usability VS Useful
Usability refers to the product working well and being easy to use, while
usefulness refers to the product’s ability to solve user problems.
Week 4:
Ways of Wayfinding can be implemented in UX Design
1. Clear Navigation: Navigation is one of the most important
components of wayfinding in UX design. Navigation should be clear, easy to
understand and should guide users to their intended destination. The
placement of menus, links, buttons, and calls to action should be
consistent and visible throughout the website or application.
2. Visual Hierarchy: Visual hierarchy is an important wayfinding
tool that helps users quickly identify the most important elements on a
page or screen. By using visual cues such as size, colour, and placement,
designers can guide users through the interface and help them understand
the relationship between different elements.
3. Consistent Design: Consistent design is key to creating a
successful wayfinding system. Elements such as typography, colour palette,
and iconography should be consistent throughout the website or
application, helping users understand the different sections and functions
available to them.
4. Search Functionality: Search functionality is a powerful
wayfinding tool that can help users quickly find the content or
information they seek. The search box should be prominently
displayed on the page, with the ability to refine searches using filters
or categories.
5. Feedback: Providing feedback to users is another important
component of wayfinding in UX design. Feedback can take the form of
confirmation messages, progress indicators, or error messages, all of
which help users understand the consequences of their actions and guide
them towards the desired outcome.
Week 5 :
Segmentation:
1. Demographic: age, gender, education level, occupation, income level
2. Geographic: countries, regions, cities
3. Behavior: attitudes, aspirations to the topic
4. Technology: The level of users’ tech savviness.
Week 6:
Empathy Map including 4 categories:
1. What they say
2. How they think
3. What they do
4. How they feels
Task 1 // Case Study: Scenario
Week 2
Task:
1. Choose a Scenario Case Study: Select a case study where UX design
played a critical role in the success or failure of the product/service.
Examples could include websites, apps, or physical products.
2. Research and Analyze: Research the case study and identify the
characteristics of good and bad UX design in the scenario. Consider usability, accessibility, visual design, information
architecture, and user feedback. Collect screenshots or images to
illustrate your points.
3. Create a Google Slides Presentation
Group Member: Siew Ni (me), Jia Yet, Latifah, Maisarah
Topic Choose: Local Retail Store
We have to visit a retail store, analyze the user experience based on our
observations, and Identify good and ad UX design. After that, prepare a
presentation with all our findings.
Store Chosen: Family Mart

Week 4
Task: Research & Problem Statement
We have to complete the problem statement for our final project. Before that, we have to practice a simple interview so that we can prepare for next week's interview.
So, we have prepared some questions to ask Taylor's students.
Interview Question in General:
1. Are you a student here?
2. Do you know Vortex Lab?
3. Have you been to Vortex Lab? (if not) Why?
4. Do you know where the Vortex Lab is?
5. Do you have difficulties finding the way to Vortex Lab the first time? WHY?
6. What do you think is the purpose of Vortex Lab? (what does it do)
7. How do you know about Vortex Lab?
8. Do you think you will go to the Vortex lab after you know about it?
And then, we went to interview the students in Taylor's randomly. and here is the results.

Week 5
Today is Wesak Holiday so there will be no class.
Week 6
Task: Based on the last task we did which is interviewing the students or lecturers, we have to do a segmentation. Then, we have to also prepare for the interview question for the following week as we had to interview the person in charge of Vortex Lab.
Week 7
Task: Mr Faisal is going to visit our class and we would have to ask him our interview question that we prepared last week. Then, we would also need to record all the answers.
During the interview, everything is going pretty well, Mr Faisal answered all our questions and we also got the answers that we want.
FEEDBACK
REFLECTIONS
Task 1:
This task has trained our observation skills to pay attention to design in
daily life that affects our user experience. I realised that "Good UX design
is hardly noticed than bad UX design" from the lecture notes is very
accurate as when users see some design that is not very satisfying, they
will immediately say it out but when they see good UX design they will just
use it and wouldn't appreciate it.
